Like the illusion of Wall Street, with its vast and powerful investment banks, now shuttered, China too is an illusion perpetuated by the Globalists that gave us the 15,000 mile Caesar salad, poisoned cat food and lead based paint on babies' pacifiers. Like the illusion that money would come from thin air to always push housing prices higher, China has spent a generation pursuing its illusion. Pursuing an unattainable dream to be like the West, while 6000 years of its carefully shepherded top soil blows into the sea.

Japan fights global warming by making all cars use ethanol cars by 2030
Quote:
Japan plans to fight global warming and surging oil prices by requiring that all vehicles be able to run on an environment-friendly mix of ethanol and regular gasoline by 2030, an official said Thursday.
The new policy, adopted by the Environment Ministry this month, will require all new cars to be able to run on a blend of 10 per cent ethanol, an alcohol fuel often made from corn or sugar, and 90 per cent gasoline, starting in 2010, said Takeshi Sekiya, an official at the ministry's global warming division. Costs and implementation are still being studied.

Yeah right.
Well, here's another interesting quote from the same article:
Quote:
To encourage the market, the ministry will ramp up production of ethanol fuel on the southern island of Miyako, where a plentiful supply of sugar cane will be converted into fuel for the island's estimated 20,000 cars in the next three years.
Now, I looked up some figures.
Miyako has a population of about 21,000, according to their tourst association, which is only slightly less than the number of cars on the island...Anyhow...
Much of the Miyako Islands has been cultivated
for sugarcane and other crops
So let's assume they're planning to use all fo this sugarcane as crop for ethanol, and that 80km2 ("much of the island") of the island would suffice for 20,000 cars.
Now let's see about Japan.
Area: 377,835 km²
Population: 128,085,000
Now let's just assume that for some strange reason all over Japanese have half the same number of cars per person as they have in Miyako. That would still leave us with 64,042,000 cars running around.
In that case, all of Japan has (64,042,000:20,000=) 32102,1 times the number of cars Miyako has. That means we have to multiply 80km2 by that number to know how many km2 we need for providing for the entirety of Japan.
That is: 2,568,168km2.
That's about 6.8 times the entire area of Japan. And that's only for a blend of 10 per cent ethanol.
Correct me if I'm wrong. Calculation of course based on some very crude assumptions. _________________ The greatest shortcoming of the human race is our inability to understand the exponential function.

Japan Might Import 6 Billion Liters of Ethanol a Year from Brazil
Quote:
Japan could import from 1.8 billion liters to 6 billion liters of ethanol, depending on the amount it adds to its gasoline, which would be between 3% and 10%. However, this is all something for the future. It will not happen before 2008," says Paulo Roberto Costa, director of Supply at Petrobras.

In rural areas, most people/families have a car, but I can tell you that in Tokyo and most cities, the car-ownership rate is much smaller. I would be surprised if there are 50 million cars in all of Japan.

Japan out any country in the world is best suited to kick its addiction to car culture. By saying all cars will run on ethanol in the future could be code talk for saying there won't be very many cars in the future. The Japanese are very good with their calculators. I don't think they would do the math and still beleive they could use ethanol to fuel anywhere near the number of cars they currently have. When Japan talks about cars being fueled by ethanol they are talking about a small number of cars.

5 stars for waegari:
theyll never pull the ETHANOL WOOL over his eyes again.
Calculators are marvelous.
Ethanol is all political.
ETHANOL is a great fuel that is unrequited love to the simple minded. It can't help us with our problem except to delay the obvious.

So instead of messing their own country up they are going to move it all over to brazil? This is just great and shows how out of touch with reality most countrys are.
