If "it's bunker time" why the fark do you care about the price of gold? You evolved some enzyme that lets you digest the stuff?

Better than most comedians. He should do an HBO special on his whole spiel.

But, you know, if you complain about the architecture of space in America, you are saying that something needs to be done about it.

Yet, if you hold the position that we are doomed, then nothing can be done about it. So why bother bitching about it? Kunstler cannot be a Doomer if he chooses to make recommendations that turn us away from our mistakes. He must believe that we can do something about our civilization here in America.

He sais that he can't talk much about the problem of peak-oil cause he was asked not to do that, therefor he wasn't allowed to say what he thinks... although he said some things... but he was very soft.

Hmmm, the man's a doomer. I had that one figured a while ago, when a friend peakoiler lent me The Long Emergency. I never got around to reading the book, but now I just don't want mom and dad to read it. No porn for them! Just hope and information.

If you get past some of the dry humor in some places and a few global warming diatribes. The Long Emergency is a very good book....probably the PO Bible if there is one.

I won't argue with that. Problem is, my family is not ready for the doomer talk. I need to talk them through, have them see the reasoning behind PO, and only then can they decide what the future might look like. If I go doomer on them, it'll just bring denial.

I was thinking of recommending to my parish that some people start reading Jim's weekly column, but the title of it is crude, Fark Nation. His writing is good, and in essence, he is promoting a more spiritual existence, getting away from materialism, so I think it is virtuous.

Not quite sure how to deal with that title though. I wish he renamed it to something else. Is there any other website that carries his column under a different name?

The positive message from Kunstler I find very valueable is the difference between consumer and citizen.
