How then, do we move backwards? How does a society, with most of the people having no clue of future events, move from being dependent on a vast and intertwined network of goods and services produced by the indigenous people of whereever, to a local resource and renewable energy based society, and do so in the timeframe available (20-30 years using the most liberal extimates, 10-20 with resonable estimates, 5-10 with worst case scenarios), all the while prices on everything increasing, world politics getting more militaristic, governments continuously reducing civil liberties, shortages of goods on the market and weather patterns resembling bad Hollywood movies?

nice find
i wonder if thats part of their tank farm
I seem to remember from something Simmons said that they have a tank farm holding up to 10days worth of supply or around 80 million barrels.

If that it is, it looks somewhat empty lol. Hm really weird .. if you scroll up theres just loads more empty containers. Maybe it could mean we are now on a 'just in time' supply of saudi oil. Ie whatever they pump doesn't go into storage but straight ontop ships or whatever. Who knows ..

Are the tanks empty or is it some kind of illusion in the photo???
How come a lot of tanks look like they don't have a roof? Wouldn't tanks like that have a fixed roof so you actually can't see the contents?

How old is the picture?
I looked up a newly developed canal area in Australia and the satelite shot seemed to be 3-5 years old. Are all pictures from the same time or do some of them get updated more frequently?

The tanks are empty and have a moving (floating) roof.

Maybe they are waiting for the 15 million barrels per day capacity Smile

It is updated very piecemeal, so it's near impossible to tell when this area's satscan was performed, although I'm sure an update log exists somewhere.

Just judging from the shadows being cast in the photo, I'd say those tanks are empty, because the outer walls of the tank cast the same depth of shadows both inside and outside the tank.

My guess is that this is the giant Abqaiq facility, not Ghawar.

If you zoom out you can see this is a piece of land jutting off the coast. It's nowhere near Ghawar.

This is the port at Ras Tanura, I Believe. Where quite a bit of Saudi oil is exported, and a serious weak point in the supply chain as far as security goes. It is vulnerable to attack from either Al Qaeda or Iran, and a shutdown of the facilities could disrupt supplies and throw markets into chaos:

CNN

Too much fun.
