Hoarding is exactly what the government is doing right now by filling the SPR, and frankly it's the best thing that could happen. It drives prices up. High prices encourage demand destruction. They also finance new well development. The hoarded oil gives us a buffer to fall back on once shortages become more prevalent. High prices are what we need in order to adapt to what's coming, and the sooner they happen, the better.

Well, I had a good experience at this conference. Kudos to the organizers, especially Nan. The presentation by Jeffrey Brown was one of the better introductions to the basic math behind oil depletion that I've seen. He used at least one of Khebab's graphs, too (with credit)! I went to the breakout discussion about resource wars, and it was worthwhile. I also did some good networking there, including meeting some good people and making some new contacts in my own town. It was definitely worth the drive to Houston. _________________ The very existence of flamethrowers proves that some time, somewhere, someone said to themselves, "You know, I want to set those people over there on fire, but I'm just not close enough to get the job done." - George Carlin
