If "it's bunker time" why the fark do you care about the price of gold? You evolved some enzyme that lets you digest the stuff?

I just got the rate bill, a hefty increase. Why? Because of huge road projects. Massive investment to ease congestion... bla bla.

I think of writing a letter (I will try a polite tone)

What do you think will be the future of car traffic?
Is it safe to tell that there will be no problem of congestion within five years?
when will traffic ease?

I will suggest to put the money in railroads.

My suggestion on the letter:

Dear Honorable Chairperson of Highway Projects,

Perhaps you have not noticed that petrol prices have risen a tad in the past 12 months. I would like to point out that the world is showing increased signs of what is being bandied about as "Peak Oil". This is where approximately half of that wonderful black stuff we use in the engine of the modern world has been pumped out of the ground and the remaining oil will be increasingly more expensive to extract.

Perhaps you've also missed that because petrol is becoming a more expensive commodity, people are driving a bit less. With the spectre of people driving less (and thus government collecting less in gasoline tax), would it not be prudent to take a moment to reconsider the advisability of building new roads for cars that will not use it?

I suggest you toddle out of your plush office and grab the nearest 12 year old to ask them what will happen if gasoline continues to increase in price. Otherwise the rightfully angered citizens may shove this new road project up your right honorable arse.

With respect,

Etc, ect, ect.

Or something to that affect.
