I think this is the beginnings of an economy based on perpetual growth and fossil fuel energy running headlong into geological energy constraints. Basically I see an undulatory downward path for the rest of my life. From here out, I think any rallies in our economic condition are going to be met with spiking commodity prices that knock us right back down.

In a news release this past week the Saudi oil minister put alot of the blame on hedge funds, traders & speculators for the run up of the oil prices. He said that the market is well supplied and oil should be around 60.00 a barrel. Is there any way to put some controls on these speculators and others who basically play the market & artificially run up the price of oil. Seems like to valuable a commodity to play around with. billyk

Don't look at me, I don't trade oil.

BTW, oil would actually be more expensive much of the time and price would swing wildly without a futures market. The futures market helps industries hedge against these fluccuations.

No one wants to pay $3 for gas one day and $12 the next.

Hey BillyK,

You probably also thought there were WMDs in Iraq also. Don't believe everything you read (especially when it comes to oil).
