Arks of Knowledge- Internet on Hard Drive - This thread mentions a couple options.
http://www.peakoil.com/fortopic35637.html
And you might be able to get a copy from "pedalling_faster" or make
an html copy yourself using this program he suggested.
HTTrack Website Copier 3.41 RC1

By the way, I'm trying out that "Website Copier" software right now
so I'll tell you how it went tomorrow. Might take several days though,
really don't know and I might have to play around with the settings too...
Aaron should sell copies and a magazine too, if he hasn't forgotten
about that... |

Anyway, 10 hours later and it's up to 1.5 gigabytes so far and it hasn't
even gotten into the forums yet. I think I'll let this run for a while
longer and I may also try just copying the forums...
By the way, it looks good so far. It's creating a big directory with an
index.html so I drop that into my web browser and it works just like I
am on the site but it's off-line.
I'll keep you updated. |

The forum database is only about 1 GB. _________________ The very existence of flamethrowers proves that some time, somewhere, someone said to themselves, "You know, I want to set those people over there on fire, but I'm just not close enough to get the job done." - George Carlin |

the software to focus on the forums. Also I think it's saving a lot of
picture data like avatars and even small pictures take more space then
a whole page of html in a database. Also if the software writes
the archive with image files stored for each page instead of in one
location, well the size requirements will get multiplied out many
times. But anyway, it seems like some good open source software.
I'm going to play with the settings some more, see what works,
what doesn't work. The experiment continues...

Just poking a little fun at some of the crazy stuff around here. | Hehehe, you wouldn't be the first to compare surfing the
forums to intellectual masturbation. Especially with people
referring to stories as "doomer porn" and such... |

Maybe you should package the PO.com archives as a series of DVDs.
You could sell them on late night cable television.
Call it "Doomers Gone Wild." _________________ Our window of opportunity is slowly closing...at the same time, it probably requires a spiral of adversity. In other words, things have to get worse before they can get better.

The problem I'm having with that software is it it can back up the
forums, but not all the pages. It doesn't understand "next" and "the
incomplete list of links" on the pages that describe the list for
browsing a forum.
This is what the backup software is having trouble interpreting...
I'm thinking of trying some other software, writing a custom script to
pick out the pages to backup and number of other things. Though
running mysql on your computer might be easier then all this. |

Maybe I could use some of the issues on programs... taking distribution that much farther.
IF that is okay with Steam Cannon? |

I still don't understand why it won't work. Every page is linked. When it crawls page 1, it should pickup page 2 by following 'Next'. Then the 'Next' link on page 2 will point to page 3 etc. |

IF that is okay with Steam Cannon? | The content on the site is free to use, just as I'm free to stick my tongue out at you!
Also that's a great idea, the forums are full of news and insight.
Just doing a google search "peakoil.com searchword", carefully using
the forums search engine, or just scrolling though the html and you'll
find lots of things to talk about and challenging questions for people
you are interviewing.
P.S. Feel free to pm me if you're having trouble finding anything.
I'm pretty good at finding most of the info on this site and other places...
