Meanwhile, keep watching for shortage reports, because we should start seeing some sneak in this week, if our doom-o-meter is calibrated correctly.

Websites Show Cheapest Gas Prices

Quote:
In the quest to save a few bucks at the pump, the smart consumer these days is letting his fingers do the driving.

They’re surfing to websites listing gas prices for every station in the area and saving up to 44 cents a gallon in the process.

Pop your zip code or a full address into a site like gasbuddy or mapquest and gas stations pop out of maps with prices from regular to diesel listed.

Aaron, I never at any stage wished to offend you because you have provided a magnificient forum for just about anyone to express his or her views often without much editing. In my case, I have tried to post stories that I thought would be helpful as in the above but sometimes I did get it wrong and you quite rightly pointed them out. The stories that really matter though are the ones where I did get it right. Please don't get offended if I post this:

Jevons Paradox is sometimes used to argue that energy conservation is futile. For example, that more efficient use of oil will not slow the arrival or the effects of peak oil, due to increased demand. This is usually presented as a reason not to increase fuel efficiency (if cars are more efficient, it will simply lead to more driving). However, several points can be raised against this argument. First, in the context of a mature market such as for oil, increased efficiency usually reduces resource use, as demand for the associated good or service is usually inelastic (i.e. does not respond much to prices).[3][4][5] Second, improved efficiency may mitigate the fuel shortages and painful disruptions in the global economy caused by the advent of peak oil. Third, even if increased efficiency does not reduce the total amount of resources used, this ignores the additional benefits associated with increased efficiency and increased use. Improved fuel efficiency will at least improve the standard of living for consumers of fuel.

Anyway, I'm very pleased that you are actually reading some of my posts!

We'll know peak oil has really arrived when a smart driver figures out that driving an extra 5 miles to fill up is not worth the cost of the gas used to save a nickel a gallon.

(Also when my mother in law realizes that driving every second day to another supermarket to take advantage of a special is too expensive of a past time.)
