I will believe the Saudis don't see any upcoming problems with Ghawar when they cancel one of their projects due to low oil prices. If they continue to be full steam ahead with increasing their capacity then I think they are aware that Ghawar may not be as robust in 5 years time as they would like us to believe.

Last year, my wife and I bought this little farmette. Shortly after we bought it, I got this weird card in the mail, telling me that I lived near a gas pipeline, telling me that I should report suspicious activity, telling me that I may be required to evacuate.

It then requested my signature and requested that I send it back. We recycled it.

Anyone else get anything weird like this?

No, but I can't think of a scam that starts that way.

Maybe you're on the early lists for the detention camps.

Expect a 3am knock on your door. Just do as you're told.

There are tornadoes, floods and tsunamis.

Then there are pipelines, tank cars and powerlines.

I'm thinking someone is trying to protect you to protect themselves from a suit in case the line breaks and causes trouble.

Seems pretty straight forward to me, make a plan and preps to run away in case of trouble. If you are in a populated area and many not so populated now days they will have reverse 911 to notify you so I'd make and practice a runaway plan, meetup location, remote contact and all that.

BTW folks, if you have nothing constructive to add to the question at hand, just go somewhere else, OK?

OXJ, Tell your neighbors about the postcard and ask where the pipeline is located. This is a good way to find out what is up in your area and to also meet your neighbors.

Like I posted in another thread, if you have land you need to learn it, that includes learning what is around it.

Where I am gas pipelines are well marked by signs on day-glow red posts wherever they cross roads. (although humungous pipes that supply California have the same size signs as tiny local pipes).

I would be suspicious of a card asking for your signature if it is not clearly from the gas co or government. Too bad you recycled it - it would be interesting to check out the return address.
