Been away for 20 years & now it's back.

Need to get the 1 remaining acre of farmland in Bakersfield back to $50 million by sucking water from the humans.

Since most people live in apartments nowadays, today's apartment fields consume a fraction that the farms used to consume, water rationing may not as important as it was in 1988 & 1977. Back then, everyone lived in houses & they were affected by the ban on lawn watering.

Yea I saw Shasta Lake at the end of last summer and it was way way down,,, Here in Las Vegas we are having water problems as well,, but the biggest problem is yet to come, Goverment says that Lake Mead "hover/boulder dam" might dry up completely by 2021,, Las Vegas gets 90% of its water from Lake Mead,,, thats just a short 13 years away...

Here is a shining example of why the gov't can't fix the problems coming our way. People who don't cut their water use by at least 10 percent based on the last three years usage will be penalized.

If you already conserve (and many people in CA are rabid about this) you don't get a pass. You might be using 100 gallons per day and you'll need to cut to 90. Your neighbor who uses 250 gpd only needs to cut to 225. It's like Fox News idea of Fair and Balanced.

On a related note, the water wars during the westward expansion make for some very interesting study for what to expect. Rent the movie Chinatown if you haven't seen it.

It will be interesting to see what happens in Los Angeles. We had better than normal rainfall this year, but they drained the Silver Lake reservoir due to some freakish contamination. So that was a collosal waste of water. Luckily I should be out of here over the summer so I won't have to deal with it anymore.

Chaparral

I didn't know Shasta was low. The reservoirs along the Southern Sierra from Kern Co to Merced are frighteningly low. Past Sacramento the water levels are a little better but still nothing to feel comfortable about. Clear lake looked pretty topped off a few weeks ago.

Glad i got some rainwater catchment in last year.
