Hoarding is exactly what the government is doing right now by filling the SPR, and frankly it's the best thing that could happen. It drives prices up. High prices encourage demand destruction. They also finance new well development. The hoarded oil gives us a buffer to fall back on once shortages become more prevalent. High prices are what we need in order to adapt to what's coming, and the sooner they happen, the better.
6. Coleman Fuel

Where the heck can I get seasoned firewood for only $100/cord!? This is split wood not trunks, right? Around here I'm pretty sure it starts around $200/cord, and for true cords of truly well-dried stuff goes for more.
For $100, I'll put the chainsaw away next year and tell them to bring me truckloads!

You can get it for $100 in the Past, 2003 more specifically, according to the date on the page. But yeah, $200 now.

I am trying to find as much useful stuff as I can during this period of relative calm before the storm. I have decided to concentrate on stoneware pottery and cast iron cookware, since both are still useful and also can be found in antique stores and yard sales.
We really do need to get things that disappear in a disaster.
I would add to the list candles and lighters. _________________ Deep in the mud and slime of things, even there, something sings.

Ummm...you were aware that "Coleman Fuel" is just gasoline right? It's "white" gas meaning it's been filtered better than pump gas, but most any "Coleman Fuel" appliance will run fine off gasoline. _________________ "I was born in a deep forest

I would add instant pancake mix(just add water kind).
I remember going into a supermarket on New Years eve 1999 and astonished to find they had been cleaned out. Cheap comfort food. _________________ In other words, it's a huge sh*t sandwich, and we're all gonna have to take a bite.-from Full Metal Jacket

Toilet paper!
Its cheap and when it runs out its probably worth its weight in gold. Trade for whatever you need. Soap too.
Heres the rest of the text to go with the list....
From a Sarajevo War Survivor:
Experiencing horrible things that can happen in a war - death of parents and
friends, hunger and malnutrition, endless freezing cold, fear, sniper attacks.
1. Stockpiling helps. but you never no how long trouble will last, so locate
near renewable food sources.
2. Living near a well with a manual pump is like being in Eden.
3. After awhile, even gold can lose its luster. But there is no luxury in war
quite like toilet paper. Its surplus value is greater than gold's.
4. If you had to go without one utility, lose electricity - it's the easiest to
do without (unless you're in a very nice climate with no need for heat.)
5. Canned foods are awesome, especially if their contents are tasty without
heating. One of the best things to stockpile is canned gravy - it makes a lot of
the dry unappetizing things you find to eat in war somewhat edible. Only needs
enough heat to "warm", not to cook. It's cheap too, especially if you buy it in
bulk.
6. Bring some books - escapist ones like romance or mysteries become more
valuable as the war continues. Sure, it's great to have a lot of survival
guides, but you'll figure most of that out on your own anyway - trust me, you'll
have a lot of time on your hands.
7. The feeling that you're human can fade pretty fast. I can't tell you how many
people I knew who would have traded a much needed meal for just a little bit of
toothpaste, rouge, soap or cologne. Not much point in fighting if you have to
lose your humanity. These things are morale-builders like nothing else.
8. Slow burning candles and matches, matches, matches _________________ "Battle not with monsters, lest ye become a monster, and if you gaze into the
Abyss, the Abyss gazes also into you."

Stockpile while your able. I myself am just buying and extra item every time I go grocery shopping. So far I have, 1 lb honey, 2 Kg salt, spam, 40 lbs rice, 15 kg of oats, 5lbs sugar, 20 lbs of mixed barely, soybeans, lentils, split pea's and the book "Peakoil life after gridcrash".
Still have so much to buy, like more food, toothpaste, tooth brushes, soap, shampoo, etc.... Still I will work on food first as that is the most important. _________________ We are the Borg. Feed stores have oats, wheat, corn, and barley at 80% less than the grocery store price. _________________ "There must be a bogeyman; there always is, and it cannot be something as esoteric as "resource depletion." You can't go to war with that." Emersonbiggins

Apart from the honey I have about the same food stocked as you although corned beef rather than spam.
Never thought of toothpaste. Glad about this thread now.
Antibiotics would be a good barter item too. (recently watched the series Jericho) although a prescription is needed in the UK.
