I will believe the Saudis don't see any upcoming problems with Ghawar when they cancel one of their projects due to low oil prices. If they continue to be full steam ahead with increasing their capacity then I think they are aware that Ghawar may not be as robust in 5 years time as they would like us to believe.

Hello everyone,

I am new to the site but not new at all to this conceptual form of thought. I knew several years ago that this country was on the wrong track and that impending problems where close at hand. We, (my wife and I) have been on a conservation kick for several years and have made large strides towards independent living and renewable energy. We have made several conversions to our home and are well on our way to being self-sufficient.

The bad news is that I can see (feel) a real storm brewing on a global level that I am not so sure that American can get out of. We have the problem of global resentment to us as a Country, our cultures, lifestyles, religions and scope of government. Yes, we are a superpower but when the world hates your guts, it puts a unique spin on future possibilities.

I am not paranoid, but I am realistic. Our foreign policy has been a self-centered joke for decades and as the old attage goes... What goes around, comes around. Yes, I do agree that our energy consumption and the reliance of foreign Oil is a real problem coupled with the fact that the "store got sold" a long time ago presents new challenges that I am not sure that the general population can (or is really prepared) to handle. We as individuals are the most spoiled people on the planet and this has made us lazy, indefferent and inable to accept the challenges that face this great nation.

Some will make it. many will not. Are you really prepared?

Welcome checkmate. Did you recently read an AP story on peakoil in your local newspaper? There have been scads of new folks here today. What gives?

Welcome. Sounds like you are on the right track. Let's just hope that light you see at the end of your own tunnel is not the headlamp of an onrushing freight train. Laughing

Have fun and don't let the doomers (me) get your down. Razz

You've come to the right place.

Consider yourself a pearl that has found its oyster.

Lots of moving parts to this thing.

Don't try to swallow it whole.

Welcome.

We're in a losing position here but there is still a lot of material on the board and no mating threats to be seen with decent play on our part. Wink

Good stuff Mate, don't disagree at all.

But I thought one wasn't supposed to pronounce "Checkmate" until all the possible moves had been analyzed and eliminated.

I'm not there yet but welcome nonetheless.
