I will believe the Saudis don't see any upcoming problems with Ghawar when they cancel one of their projects due to low oil prices. If they continue to be full steam ahead with increasing their capacity then I think they are aware that Ghawar may not be as robust in 5 years time as they would like us to believe.

south are converging on central Sudan, a UN official has told the BBC.

The country was "on the brink" of a resumption of the 20-year civil war, said UN regional co-ordinator for South Sudan David Gressley.

The warning follows recent clashes in the oil-rich region of Abyei, which is claimed by both sides.

On Tuesday, the US envoy to Sudan warned that leaders from both sides were not interested in peace.

And how would you see the us and china getting involved? As suppliers of weapons? engaging in the war-making themselves?

I think I know what you are getting at but am curious to know for sure.

One of the phrases used for "oil" across Africa and other nations in which oil is a curse is "Satan's excrement". Where ever there is oil, corruption, poverty and war are many times more likely to occur.

I don't see how the U.S. can ever go against the red chinese in an open military action.

We (America) have shipped our industrial infrascture to the third world and you cannot fight a war when the home front produces nothing tangible.

For better or worse, we're living in the declining years of the American Republic. The media is filled with images and stories that glorify war and drill into us, the need for an all-powerful federal government who will "Keep us safe".

While we mouth "Land of the Free, Home of the Brave", we've allowed the Constitution has become nothing but a relic of the past. If you have ANY doubts as to how the Constitution has been used as toilet paper by the power-grabbing politicians, simply read Amendment IV...

"The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized."....

Now that you've read it, explain how the sneak & peek provisions of the so-called "Patriot Act" can be squared with the original intent.

Yes, you re right. But only a few made profits, the other people are going to die.

It is apsolutly stupid to go to war for oil because its your blood.

It is intelligent to put solar panels on your roof instead of killing innocent people for oil and profits of few: Big Oil Big Money

Every soldier on the world has to smash his rifle down and go home to his family and prepare his home / town for post peak oil.

It is stupid to fight other wars for oil!

It is stupid to vote for a president fighting oil wars
Leave oil before it leaves us BIROL

Maybe not in China, but the Chinese have zero ability to project military power to Africa. As in none.

I don't think the US will do war with China. With war comes the cessation of trade, and it's just not something either of us can afford to our ecomonies. Messed up economy is what we are trying to prevent by getting into oil wars. So I think China and the US have a sort of mutual understanding. "We'll let you take Africa, just leave us alone in the Middle East".
I think the larger countries in the best position to weather this storm are Russia (with its domestic supply of oil) and Brazil (with its domestic supply of sugar). The smaller oil-producing nations think they have it going for them, but they have no chance. They will just be occupied by the big powers.

Just as the attack on Pearl was necessary for the survival and continued growth of the Japanese, China's involvement in war-for-oil is also necessary.
Oil is just that good, and alternatives are just not as viable for a huge nation that wants to grow as fast as it can.
