I will believe the Saudis don't see any upcoming problems with Ghawar when they cancel one of their projects due to low oil prices. If they continue to be full steam ahead with increasing their capacity then I think they are aware that Ghawar may not be as robust in 5 years time as they would like us to believe.

Hi everyone,

This is my first post. I have been lurking for about a month but have been aware of P.O. for a few years now. The main reason I'm posting now is that I saw an interesting web site today. Apparently ABC news is doing a special this fall about the coming collaspe. They are inviting people to make videos about what they're vision of the future is, specifically the years 2015, 2050, 2070 and 2100. They stated some of the reasons for the collaspe were global warming, overpopulation, and oil depletion. Is the media going to finally try to warn the public?
The website is earth2100.tv and i found the link of drudge's site.

WOW. When that airs, I wonder what the next day will look like.

I don't know what the the next day will look like but judging from some of the posts that I read about it most of the people were already denying it. Some video's have already been made and the year 2015 looked pretty dire. gas was above $9.00 gal. and a can of cat food was $9.00 a can. If this is actually the case and I think it probably will be, we won't make it to the year 2050. Barring a nuclear war or all out global warming (where the ocean turns into methane gas) there probably won't be an all out extinction but there will be a big die-off so the public better take heed.

You will not be able to stay home, brother.
You will not be able to plug in, turn on and cop out.
You will not be able to lose yourself on skag and skip,
Skip out for beer during commercials,
Because the revolution will not be televised.

The problem with this sort of show is that you aren't going to get well thought out analysis of what is really likely to happen.

What you will get is sensationalism as all the doomers come out of the closet and start putting forward all their worst case scenarios.

Good entertainment ... but that is about all its worth.

yea, I agree with you. recently I was trying to talk to a friend of mine about P.O. and at first he didn't want to believe me but as time went on he started to believe it but then said to me "I'm getting old and I don't know what I'm supposed to do with this information. I can't do anything about it." To most people its all pretty overwelming. They don't know what to do and there are no answers. How does anyone deal with the end of civilzation as we know it. I have read many on this site talking about all the preparations they are making to survive but then I start thinking about all the problems most people would encounter and I think living though this you would have to be born into a lifestyle very much like the amish.

This earth 2100 isn't just a 2-hour show in September, it's also a game. You get to make four short videos about the future. The first step is 2015; ABC people will pick the interesting ones, and give you a scenario for the 2050 video, etc. It's basically a blank slate upon which to explore cornucopian fantasy, doomer porn, or a little of both.

I'm working on a 2-minute "re-localization" video for 2015 right now, hunting down video clips of burning vehicles, riots, carjackings and other street crime -- to help show the need to live as close to a job as possible. I'll be recording in a run-down industrial section of Tampa. It's my attempt at showing that very high gas prices will be the last thing to worry about when gas prices get very high.

wow, interesting.
I'm kind of looking foward to what people will come up with for what the future will look like.

Moderators:
This thread would do well merged with Current Energy News/ABC NEWS: Is this the end of the world?

readfreak:
Not to bust your bubble but it's the same subject, the other thread was started 15 hours before this one. Good catch though.
