Their stock has fallen 73% in one year. Hubby said Winnebago did real well after 9/11 and now they're doing real poorly.
Hubby and I traveled several hundred miles on the interstate highways recently and we observed that in our travels, we didn't see ONE RV on the road. Not one. As he said, "I would have expected to see dozens on this stretch of interstate, especially at this time of year."

| Quote: | CHICAGO, June 20 (Reuters) - Winnebago Industries Inc said on Friday that earnings in the latest quarter tumbled as tough economic conditions dragged the motor home maker's sales down nearly 40 percent during the key spring selling season.
The Forest City, Iowa-based company reported a net profit of $3 million, or 10 cents a share, for its fiscal third quarter, ended May 31, down 73 percent from the $11.3 million, or 35 cents a share, a year earlier. |

I like to buy several for very little and set them up on the farm for family members to live in after TSHTF. They will be cheap soon! _________________ Everybody thinks they're righteous! Adam Baldwin "Jayne" Firefly/Serenity |

EXACTLY!!! Wife and I have been talking about this. Maybe not a Winnebago but a camper trailer to put on our wood lot as an instant house. My idea was to put in some telephone poles and jack the thing up 7 feet so that I can store stuff under it.
We don't want to live there permanently but have the idea that it would make a cheap bug out place. I just need to think of how to heat it with wood. Maybe if it is 7 feet up I can get a little fire going underneath and?????????.............................naw!!!!!!!!!! _________________ When going through hell, keep going! Churchill

Yup! We'll have family moving onto the farm where we've prepared and they haven't! All those people can NOT live under the same roof. Camper, Winnebago, whatever: instant house. Heating is a problem. We plan on putting them in a barn to shelter them more, but I don't know how to heat them. Ideas Newfie? _________________ Everybody thinks they're righteous! Adam Baldwin "Jayne" Firefly/Serenity |

Yes, I'd like to buy a late model low mileage RV in excellent shape cheaply. We live in a tourist area, so we see motorhomes, campers and boats all the time.
We've heard stories about cheap SUVs, Boats and RVs for many years, but you never see them selling cheaply unless they're old, have high miles or they're in rough shape. |

Back in the late 70's this company very nearly went belly up.
It might be even worse now. Household debt is a lot worse. People can't get a home equity loan now, no one is selling their house to be a full-timer, plenty of these sitting on lots all over the country/unsold inventory.
Another short sale might be Harley Davidson at the moment. You can't drive down a country road in my part of the country without seeing 5 of these with "for sale" signs on them. |

I am looking now for TWO motorhomes or trailers. Want to park one in Colorado and one on the Gulf coast. Then I can leave them there and drive my little car there and stay for the seasons. Just a diff way to do what ppl have done by pulling them or driving them there all these years.
They are cheap for sure and getting cheaper. I can get a good motorhome with slide for $8,000 so cheap coastal digs.
Then I can live where I want when I want. hah |

Yesterday afternoon I drove from Seattle to Portland and saw exactly * zero * motor homes during this three hour period on I-5.

| Same here. Niagara is one of the busiest tourist regions in the country normally. I hardly see any RVs. It's a bit uncanny. |

I've been predicting this about Harley Davidson for several years and it's now finally on. For example, today one can pick up a 'newer' used FXD with very, very low miles for under 10 grand.
I bought one new in '98 for $12,750 and sold it in '01 with 25,000 miles on it and a dented rear fender and two worn out tires for $12,000. New FXD's are still around $12,750 if you shop a little. 10 years later and the price of a new one is basically unchanged. Used ones are considerably cheaper. This is a trend that cannot last long.
My how the Harley market has imploded. Their stock price will hit $20.00 soon. Then $10 next year. _________________ Got Dharma?

Why are Harley Davidson motorcycles faltering? I would have thought motorcycles were the THING right now.
As to the RVs on the road, that's my point. We were on I-64 from Virginia Beach to Beckley, WV (about 360 miles) and never saw ONE RV. Hubby and I both observed we'd never seen such a thing. |

All the boomers went out and got bikes and Harley built dealerships so fast all over thinking it would last forever. HOWEVER, there is a limit to the money for those kinds of things and ppl find out riding in the heat and wind is not quite like it appears. So they are sold as ppl realize they made a mistake on how much they would use it. Just another toy hitting the market.
I thot it funny all the office dudes in their leathers acting tough. Good lord. |
