Maybe it is just me considering I have had the last 2 weeks off and have been watching the news almost 24/7. Has the media been brainwashing us making us believe there isn't a problem? Mind you I have went backwards on the Loss scale. When I found PO I went from Acceptance, Depression, Bargaining to anger. So maybe Im just experiencing denial. Seriously is it just me in denial mode, or has the media in recent months made a coordinated effort to try and convince people that everything will be ok if we simply drill drill drill or kill speculators. I just can't accept the fact that nothing can be done. I mean ya I believed and still believe we have too high a population and we live unsustainably blah blah blah. But can't we blunt the effects of something?
Doomers and non-dommer responses welcome. |

The media is not in the business of educating people. They sell information about the present situation. Reporters don't have the time to research geological theorys, they don't have the expertises to challenge the opinions of 'expert' economists. Geologists don't have as high a standing as economists in media circles I'm afraid.
Besides, speculation on Oil is a FACT. Opening up more areas to drill will bring more oil on to the market, no matter how insignificant, thats a FACT. And reporters report facts, don't expect them to do the thinking for all humanity.
Then theres the international bankers with own and control the whole world... but this isn't Open Discussion. _________________ April 2008 Global Population: 6.8 billion

Everything is fine.
It works like this.
1. We have a problem
2. We find someone to point the finger at (wrongly)
3. People are more calm when they have someone to blame it on (notice that they always blame invisible characters: speculators, arabs, Santa Claus, etc)
4. People are satisfied that their government takes action, and will continue to vote for them. The media also gets the audience they need.
5. We go back to number 1.
The TV is the church of modern society. Obey and believe every fantasy you are being told. _________________ capitalism *is* fun | crude oil price

I wouldn't say the news is trying to brainwash anyone.
They just prefer to not be as doomy and gloomy in this area(though in ever other area they are.).
They are often informing us of alternatives however I think people invest too much in drilling here and speculators. |

The other day I saw a Ranger Rover ad on a page talking about SUV sales tanking. _________________ As long as I am around, there are no worries we have reached "Peak Words"

Have ya'll noticed that 75% of the advertising on CNN is from pharma and oil companies? The other 25% is their own self-promotion. _________________ My new Peak Oil T-Shirt Design |

Yes, we could powerdown and reduce the population.
Then when the inevitable population crash comes, the carrying capacity won't be so devastated and future generations possibly will thank us, rather than curse us. _________________ A Saudi saying, "My father rode a camel. I drive a car. My son flies a jet-plane. His son will ride a camel."
