I will believe the Saudis don't see any upcoming problems with Ghawar when they cancel one of their projects due to low oil prices. If they continue to be full steam ahead with increasing their capacity then I think they are aware that Ghawar may not be as robust in 5 years time as they would like us to believe.

Quote:
DUBAI: Blaming energy taxes, speculation and high consumption for soaring oil prices, Saudi Arabia's King Abdullah said both producers and consumers should control these factors to “soften'' the impact on the people.

“Consuming countries should reduce taxes on petroleum products if they really wanted to soften the burden on consumers,'' King Abdullah said in an interview with Kuwait's Assiyassah Arabic newspaper.

Being able to drive vs. potholes, eh? Mad And everything else that is built into fuel taxes.

Putting soften in quotes was a nice touch on the reporter's part.

Quote:
The king also asked consumers to get used to rising oil prices as there were very little chances of its going down. “We have nothing to do with the current sharp increase in oil prices. But these are still cheap compared to prices of alternative energy products available,'' the King was quoted as saying.

The King has asked oil producing and consuming countries to find out the real reasons of unprecedented surge in prices which have crossed $140 per barrel and tackle them in a clear and transparent manner.

Anything but pump more. Because there are no fuel shortages. There have never been fuel shortages.

Read Whipple's latest Peak Oil Review if you don't follow the sarcasm. Five paragraphs worth of contradiction to what The King has to say.

Quote:
He said Saudi Arabia has always called for a reasonable price for oil, without causing harm to consumers as well as producers. “We adopted this policy to protect the interest of the whole world,'' he added.

Well isn't that special?

I'll put this in here...

Quote:
KUWAIT (Reuters) - Current oil prices are cheap when compared to other sources of energy and would not ease even if production was raised because speculation and taxes are behind the soaring market, Saudi Arabia's King said in press remarks.

"Looking at experts reports I say the current price for oil is considered cheap if compared with the prices of other alternative sources of energy that are also witnessing an increasing rise because of the increasing demand or cost of their production," al-Seyassah quoted King Abdullah as saying on Tuesday.

"People who think that oil prices will go down once production is raised are wrong because there are indications the prices will remain high," the ruler of the world's largest oil exporter was quoted as saying by sister paper the Arab Times.

"Consuming countries should adapt with the prices and tools of the market and to solve their issues with a fair logic," he told al-Seyassah

Anyone remember the term "swing producer"?

I haven't heard that term in a while.

***

"Oh wait a second, isn't a swing producer one of those guys who puts on those neat retro dance shows?"

Sounds like the King has been reading Matt Simmons!

Fat lot of good it does us at the moment.

Tex - wonder why the file name for your pic is "http://www.bodyworksnc.com/images/whiteys.jpg"? And what it's doing at an ab crunch website?

We are definitely, rapidly disrespecting the almighty KING. He has spoken, and us serfs must obey.

Will all you serfs go back to your peasant villages. The King has spoken.

Reminds me of an old Chinese proverb:

"Sometimes truth hides in dark crevice; sometimes truth hides in plain sight; sometimes truth is on ab crunch website."

The only thing I can think of when I read about news from Saudi is just how filthy, stinkin rich those guys are.

Anybody remember Duck Tales? When Scrooge had his vault full of gold coins and he would swim in it? Thats the image I get of the Saudi Royal family.
