I will believe the Saudis don't see any upcoming problems with Ghawar when they cancel one of their projects due to low oil prices. If they continue to be full steam ahead with increasing their capacity then I think they are aware that Ghawar may not be as robust in 5 years time as they would like us to believe.

They broadcast some of the most intelligent programming out there. You'd think that something would have been put together for Frontline or Nova.It would be a great PO platform.Just a thought.

PBS ceased being "public" a long time ago. It has a boatload of corporate sponsors.

The nightly news show on PBS is as brain-dead on the subject of PO as you can get. And it's been a regular tin drum for BushCo. on the terrorism bullshit, giving that subject huge prominence for many years.

A huge disappointment, PBS. Yes, it has some nice wildlife shows. But what one hand gives, the other takes away.

Wisconsin Public Radio has had a lot of locally originated programs relating to energy prices, including peak oil, in the last few weeks. The National Public Radio program "On Point" has had a few that have touched on the subject, but mostly talked about the high price of oil and gasoline. I wouldn't have a clue what is on TV,

PBS is largely funded by the Corporation for Public Broadcasting -- a government created and funded group. Here's their board:

Quote:
These eight board members are in office as of February 2007 (one seat currently vacant):

* Cheryl Halpern (chair), Republican, nominated January 2003 by President George W. Bush, confirmed by the U.S. Senate November 2003.
* Gay Hart Gaines (vice chair), Republican, nominated December 2003 by President George W. Bush, confirmed by the U.S. Senate November 2004.
* Beth Courtney, Independent, nominated April 2003 by President George W. Bush, confirmed by the U.S. Senate November 2003.
* Warren Bell, first nominated June 20, 2006, by President George W. Bush. His confirmation was blocked, and on December 20, 2006, Bush appointed Bell as a recess nominee.
* Claudia Puig, Republican, nominated December 2003 by President George W. Bush, confirmed by U.S. Senate November 2004.
* Ernest J. Wilson III, Democrat, nominated to first term by President Clinton in 2000. Renominated to second term November 2004 by President George W. Bush, confirmed by Senate November 2004.
* former Senator David H. Pryor, Democrat, nominated June 2006 by President George W. Bush and confirmed September 2006 by the U.S. Senate.
* Chris Boskin, Republican, nominated June 2006 by President George W. Bush and confirmed September 2006 by the U.S. Senate.

Not much chance of a free editorial policy, I think.

PBS is at best, irrelevant, with the exception of dear Bill Moyers.

Peak oil is showing up on The Newhour with Jim Lehrer, and related spots;

- http://www.pbs.org/newshour/businessdesk/2008/04/why-is-the-price-in-oil-rising.html
-http://www.pbs.org/newshour/bb/social_issues/july-dec07/localfood_11-22.html

Could it get higher amounts of coverage? Sure.

I downloaded a podcast from them a few days ago that was kind of debunkerish. They tried to tie the peak oil movement in with religious apocalyptic types.

I'll check out some of their other shows as that one kind of irked me.

Their coverage of the invasion of Iraq and continued occupation has been disgusting.

We all understand the link between Iraq and peak oil,but i didn't see anything in Bush's War about PO.It was a very good documentary though.

I don't know bone.

I'd look around on frontline some, Wolfie and The Pearl were way ahead of us on the PO stuff way back and who to whack - Dickie's little group jerk around the Iraq map and such.

But really, gas prices have led the MSM news for months now.

What is it you expect PBS, NPR, or any news outlet to do?

You can lead a horse to water but you can't make many commuters peddle a bike (with a news story).

I'd like to see a really in depth analysis of the oil markets with a serious emphasis on supply.I'd like to see an explanation of the different grades of crude and how these grades affect refinery operations.I'd like to see an in depth analysis of the benefits of conservation, and finally,i'd like to see an under the microscope view of just how hard it is to find and retrieve this oil that is so much taken for granted.Special note:all of this to be produced and targeted at Joe six pack and soccer moms!

Pretentious Boring Shit.

It's a plot by a cabal of right-wing fratboys. NPR especially is a satire, a send-up of liberal hoitytoitiness.
