Connecticut city imposes curfew after shootings
Mon Aug 11, 2008
HARTFORD, Connecticut (Reuters) - The Connecticut city of Hartford responded to mounting gun violence on Monday with a 30-day curfew for youths after one man was killed and 10 people were wounded in three separate attacks over the weekend. …
Starting on Thursday, anyone under the age of 18 who is on the streets after 9 p.m. without an adult will be picked up by police and brought to a community center where a parent or guardian can collect them, he said.
Authorities in Hartford, about 120 miles northeast of New York City, were also setting up a "shooting team" dedicated to prosecuting "shooters to the fullest extent of the law, keeping them off the streets and behind bars," he added. …

HHHmmm-Might be interesting to compare 'curfew' with 'martial law.' _________________ "RRrrruuuunnnn!!!" ~Apocalypto |

This curfew should be imposed year round, or at the least it should start in mid-June when school gets out instead of mid-August.
It gets tiring to watch these people act like animals on the news every night. Daily shootings in Hartford and New Haven, for decades. When the local cops seem overwhelmed, the state has a contingency of state police come in and help, costing me money even though I don't live in either hellhole.
While I feel bad for the innocent, none of them step up to the plate to help solve the problem - the old snitches get stitches Catch 22. If no one will come forward to the police as a witness, law enforcement has nothing to work with and the cycle continues. |

| Curfews are nothing new in the USA. Weren't they more common in small cities and towns? As for it being martial law, I am just wondering, has the poster been to Hartford CT, esp. at night, lately? Or many other urban areas in the USA? You will scream for more police presence and curfews. |

No, I have never had the opportunity to visit Connecticut, or any of the Northeast states for that matter.
When I was a minor (in the 50s & 60s), city curfews for anyone under the age of 18 were common where-ever we lived (father in the military and we lived in small towns where the military was the biggest employer). I have driven through many urban areas at night, but have never lived in an major urban or inner city area.
Some of the reasons that I found this item interesting were because it demonstrates how quickly certain groups of the population could mobilize against authority, and how TPTB respond.
As for curfew vs martial law: While you can have a curfew without martial law, I don't think you can have martial law without curfews. _________________ "RRrrruuuunnnn!!!" ~Apocalypto |

They had a similar curfew in Nashville when I was growing up. Teens weren't allowed out after midnight except for work. That was before they enacted so many of the nanny child-labor laws. Now I don't think teens are allowed to work after midnight. _________________ "So while you sit and whistle Dixie with your money and your power.

Here's another one:
Crime-ridden Ark. town widens 24-hour curfew
Cops with military rifles patrol, question passers-by in Helena-West Helena
HELENA-WEST HELENA, Ark. - Officers armed with military rifles have been stopping and questioning passers-by in a U.S. neighborhood plagued by violence that's been under a 24-hour curfew for a week.
On Tuesday, the Helena-West Helena City Council voted 9-0 to allow police to expand that program into any area of the city, despite a warning from a lawyer with the American Civil Liberties Union of Arkansas that the police stops were unconstitutional.
… "Now if somebody wants to sue us, they have an option to sue, but I'm fairly certain that a judge will see it the way the way the citizens see it here," Mayor James Valley said. "The citizens deserve peace, that some infringement on constitutional rights is OK and we have not violated anything as far as the Constitution." …

FL's last post would be a better example of martial law than the previous but sure, it's just shades of gray.
But this quote:

God, you're young.
Cut the head off and a new one grows back.
I don't know what the answer is, but it sure ain't yours.
The answer probably lies in giving people a reason to live for instead of a reason to die or kill for. |
