I will believe the Saudis don't see any upcoming problems with Ghawar when they cancel one of their projects due to low oil prices. If they continue to be full steam ahead with increasing their capacity then I think they are aware that Ghawar may not be as robust in 5 years time as they would like us to believe.

Quote:
DENVER (AP) - Xcel Energy expects to turn off power to 47,000 Colorado customers in the second and third quarters this year because they failed to pay their bill on time.
That number is a 140 percent increase compared to the same period in 2005 when the utility shut off power to 19,537 customers. The increase comes as Xcel rates have increased the last six months to cover the cost of coal and natural gas.
Skip Arnold, executive director of Energy Outreach Colorado, says the bills are putting on a strain on low-income families.
The Minneapolis company has about 1.6 million customers in Colorado. It is the largest electric and natural-gas utility in the state.

Wow they must really be pushed to their limits on power supply..... No doubt it will be increased with coal plants... _________________ Tired of high gas prices? Then stop driving to work, duh..... Learn to Work from home

The Kansas GOP is working hard for that to happen.
For those who don't know the story, Colorado passed a ballot initiative that 15% and growing of future energy projects in the state would be renewable. Mazel tov. But, rather than, you know, actually build such projects, the Colorado utilities found a small Kansas rural electric coop to be their partner on a 1.4 to 2 GW coal station just inside the Kansas line (conveniently downwind of Colorful Colorado). 85%-90% of the power was to be committed permanently to Colorado utilities, while sucking down scarce aquifer water and doing an end-run against the intent of the Colorado voters. Kansas Governor Sebelius has vetoed this sucker a few times, and the Kansas Republicans haven't been able to override it, yet. _________________ At 1% annual growth, human bodies will incorporate every gram in the observable universe in approximately 10,170 years.

Only double what it was in 2005? I wonder if it's people who are just walking away from their foreclosures... They already have a black mark on their credit thanks to that, so why bother paying the bills from it? Denver alone has ~4,000 foreclosed homes right now and there were nearly 8,000 in 2007. _________________
