I will believe the Saudis don't see any upcoming problems with Ghawar when they cancel one of their projects due to low oil prices. If they continue to be full steam ahead with increasing their capacity then I think they are aware that Ghawar may not be as robust in 5 years time as they would like us to believe.

Rumours of a national truckers strike have been ciruclating for some time. This morning it was mentioned on the ABC News.

Looking around the web it seems that most national trucking bodies are not supporting the strike which is being called by a group of independant truckers.

It seems that this strike will not come to much, but perhaps it would be prudent to take in a bit extra in supplies just in case.

I was at the shopping centre this morning. I fully expected to see loads of people stocking up on everything. Instead I found the place almost deserted. Seems no one is really concerned about the upcoming truck strike.

Sometimes I feel so disconnected.

Don't feel disconnected TT. The government in Austrailia is probably looking at the disruptions the strikes caused in Europe and are poo-pooing the effort on TV to try to make if fizzle out. They may succede, but the idea is there, and that's what's important for now. People are starting to understand. By forcing the media to spend time downplaying something, they're still getting the message out, even if it's in an indirect way. People will begin to wonder: "Why do they want to strike?" ...and that's the key.

Let me start by saying I am not a doomer or an anarchist but...if this strike goes ahead and lasts the predicted 14 days, then firstly it will give a real time indication on how people here will cope. Secondly, it will be a definate wake up call to everyone that there is a real problem. Finally, the sinical generation may get off its ass and conserve / prepare for the next phase...post post peak oil.

Australia wont prepare. We dont prepare for cyclones so why worry about a truckers strike. I definitely agree that should this go ahead nationally for 2 weeks we are in some deep strife. I've done my shopping aswell and was expecting to see people buying up. But like I said I have been in town a few times when there was a cyclone 200km off the coast and people haven't budged.

One thing to note is that how many truckers themselves would be able to have 2 weeks off work and have 2 weeks pay saved away. I worked in mining and even with those big salaries you would be surprised these days how many people cant afford to have 2 weeks off work. Obviously you have the mortgage slaves who are cashed strapped but most people just dont know how to plan into the future.
