I will believe the Saudis don't see any upcoming problems with Ghawar when they cancel one of their projects due to low oil prices. If they continue to be full steam ahead with increasing their capacity then I think they are aware that Ghawar may not be as robust in 5 years time as they would like us to believe.

1.does melting ice = major earthquakes? and could we expect more upheavals around the globe as the glaciers disappear?
2. Whilst observing the bbc global weather map I have noticed that there are vast parts of africa, asia, North/central america and the whole of asia that have been suffering extremely heavy rain for some weeks; a normal event?

1) No clue but would be very interesting.

2) Over a one or two year period, it's not possible to predict, over a decade you can start making judgements on whether the patterns are changing.
