The US has only one kind of solution, military solutions.
Flooding in New Orleans? Send in the National Guard or Army Corp of Engineers to fix the levees.
Too much crime? Make the police look more like the military and give them scarier looking guns.
Trouble with illegal immigration? Put the National Guard on the border.
Russia defending its allies against Georgian attack? Set up a military base.
If all you have is hammers, every problem looks like a nail.

They're just poking each other in the eye right now. Venezuela, Georgia - silly pawns that one of these days might just get pulverized.

| So resource wars can take many paths. Instead of fighting between two havenots (oil importers). A have(Russia) tries to tighten the noose on the havenots (US and Europe). The havenots get pissed, doesn't bode well. |

I'd love to know what can US do if Russians are to shell that base, say, because they believe that there are terrorists hiding inside.

Respectfully, SH2, I note that your explanation appears, perhaps unintentionally, to place blame equally.
In my book it's about 98-2 in the U.S.'s favor for instigation.

Yeah, have you noticed how many TV shows now have every situation portrayed by people in the military? Want a show about forensics? Oh, make it a bunch of guys from the Navy. At this point, I absolutely could not fault the Russians for finding (or provoking) any "excuse" for occupying Georgia outright. They've made their objections clear and if NATO's going to ignore them, then obviously it's time to underline things.

It seems to me the recent take over of Fmae and FMac, must have been done with an implicit or explicit understanding from the Chinese, that they would continue to support the US economy through purchase and retention of treasuries. If this was the case, you would think there were strings attached that would weaken the US military position with respect to the Chinese.
In other words, you would think that Iran is less likely to be bombed, cutting off Chinese oil supply. In this case, Georgia and Turkey won't be needed as staging grounds. If they do go ahead with these agreements and build those bases, the Chinese are also going to look at it as something like a declaration of war, in terms of their energy security.
The response will be to dump American treasuries, the financial weapons of mass destruction. |
