I will believe the Saudis don't see any upcoming problems with Ghawar when they cancel one of their projects due to low oil prices. If they continue to be full steam ahead with increasing their capacity then I think they are aware that Ghawar may not be as robust in 5 years time as they would like us to believe.

I think the next major crisis is just a few more weeks down the pipe. Warren Buffet has been grumbling that the bailout is too small.

Probably in time for the Thanksgiving/ Christmas shopping season.

Another couple hundred for each of us for gifts or heating, our choice.

This ain't news yet, but will be before you know it. I say six weeks. I suspect we'll soon see more rebates too. And more rate cuts ... but there's only a couple more of them possible.

After that. Boom. new_blowingup

What is going to be interesting is when the states start coming to the US Gov and start asking for handouts via California. People have no idea how bad this is going to get. I am hearing that we are out of tens of trillions. We cannot even print the money fast enough.

i think the bailout phenomena will be what separates this deppression from the one in 1929.

The US will get by on one bailout after another.

A policy of sustaining artificially high prices, at any cost, was used then too, the result anyway - a decade long depression.

Infusions are standard daily operations. Tens of billions, hundreds of billions. When in trillions?

I give it a few weeks to heat up again.

Hard to imagine that the federal G-men will bail out the states, though. It seems like there's always been a policy of burdening the states but turning a blind eye to it.

It no longer looks like they can keep the bailing wire on this until election day.

The next bailout comes in one to two weeks, although there may not be an actual vote now while Congress is out of town.

I predicted last spring there will be a second taxpayer stimulus bill by the end of 2008, and although there was some minor stimulus measures just passed, that's not what I had in mind.

I see another stimulus by year-end, which will be partly or mostly about energy cost subsidies.

For the record, I'm only joking here. Since Congress is out of session, Paulson will have to use some of that $700 billion for another taxpayer bailout. The last one costs about what, $150 billion? So, he's got the money and discretion to spend at will.

The next "bailout" is coming, then another, and another...

What's the over/under on $50 for a loaf store-brand white bread? About a year?

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said Wednesday that a $150 billion economic stimulus plan is needed now because of the faltering economy and she may call the House into session after the election to pass it.
