Seaweed + CO2 = green fuel?

I don't know if this has been discussed on this forum,
but this could be an elegant way of recycling CO2 from coal burning plants. Coal is said to be the next best thing after oil and so we are about to revert to coal for our basic energy need.
With pollution being the biggest drawback of coal power plants,
could this technology be applied on a massive scale?

NREL (National Renewable Energy Laboratory) has experimented with generating lipids from algae, according the Michael Pacheco of NREL. He said that a single acre of algae farming can yield 10,000 gallons per year of lipid material, which could be a source for bio-oil.
