I will believe the Saudis don't see any upcoming problems with Ghawar when they cancel one of their projects due to low oil prices. If they continue to be full steam ahead with increasing their capacity then I think they are aware that Ghawar may not be as robust in 5 years time as they would like us to believe.

How would you react if you realy knew something? If president Bush interupted "Lost", and "American Idol" tonite and annouced that this upcoming year was going to be marked by a shortage of oil supplies. Continued on about mass economy failures and job loss. In short gives a breakdown of all the possible implications of a peak oil scenario.
What would you do? How would people React? My worst fear is what Bush might try to do to fix it.

I'd probably keep doing what I'm doing now, until prevented, that is, I'd keep buying a little extra food and tools, and keep working toward becoming more self-supporting.

Not a whole heck of a lot more I can do, actually.

Maybe I'd buy a yurt or some kind of structure for relatives to live in if they need to.

So you'd only really know it was true if President Bush said it? How about reaching those conclusions by yourself, even if the Government didn't tell you. Rolling Eyes

Exactly, I don't need Bush to tell me before really know. I really know a peak in oil production is coming during the next decade.

I'd sell the farm, buy a Hummer and move to the suburbs.

Seriously, look what happened when he convinced a good portion of the American public Saddam had nukes about to go off in NY – something quite a few still believe IIRC; the result of that little speech are there for anyone to see.

On hearing your theoretical telecast I would go into serious bunker mode – and I’m not a Bunker Boy.

I would immediatly purchase some class IV body armor, a combat helmet, an ALICE pack, some more "Natural" pattern camoflauge, and more .22, .223, 7mm Mag, and 7.62x39mm ammunition. Then I would start making final preperations. The windows are already covered with 3/4 inch plexiglass, so it can withstand a direct shot from a 9mm handgun. securing the doors would be more difficult, because I have to be able to leave the house. Plus, where the hell can I buy 1000 yards of concentra?
