I will believe the Saudis don't see any upcoming problems with Ghawar when they cancel one of their projects due to low oil prices. If they continue to be full steam ahead with increasing their capacity then I think they are aware that Ghawar may not be as robust in 5 years time as they would like us to believe.

Hi all...

I've been asked to assist with planning events in the Hunter Region for National Science & Engineering Week.

The URL for the Natioanl (Australian) science week is:

www.scienceweek.info.au

One of the things I'd LIKE to do, but don't know HOW to do, is to run a conference, or public lecture or something of that nature about Peak Oil - after all it would be the ideal time to do so.

Is anyone else from Australia?

What would others suggest? (please keep it clean)

I was thinking of getting a copy of the End of Suburbia and organising a "film night" with it as the main "offering".

The word "thinking" is emphasised, as I haven't done anything, just in the trying-to-come-up-with-ideas stage.

Hi ubercynic

Try posting your request on the Aussie Peak Oil group at Yahoo ROEOZ - quite a few folks there have run such events, I'm sure some of them won't be too far from you. They may be able to help you rustle up a speaker too (if you need one).

cheers

Sherry

Hmmm. EoS is good, great if starting from Go, but not ideal in terms of US focus or its 'new urbanism' optimism, which really doesn't wash in Aus setting.

Sure, show some parts of it, maybe with Holmgren interview off Global Public Media, but me thinks have to allow some feedback/ Q&A time to get ppl thinking about it. Else they will just come-look-leave and promptly wipe it from their minds as too hard or too scary to think about.
Be good to have some credible question answer-ers, so that hydrogen/nuclear/cleancoal isn't slotted into the need-an-answer role. I'd personally love to do that, but don't have the approp credentials to be taken seriously as a speaker.

Scmayo is right (as usual!) that ROEOZ@yahoogroups seems to be the best/main window on Australian depletionists.

Please check out www.sydneypeakoil.com as well... we are currently working on a cross-chamber briefing for the NSW Greens.
