I will believe the Saudis don't see any upcoming problems with Ghawar when they cancel one of their projects due to low oil prices. If they continue to be full steam ahead with increasing their capacity then I think they are aware that Ghawar may not be as robust in 5 years time as they would like us to believe.
A couple of months ago the AWEA upped their 2005 forecast, to
"up to 2,500M" will be installed for the year. At the time, I thought
it to be realistic. Does anyone have more current info on some of these
possible projects?
I've goggled a number of those listed, and while I see a few have
been completed or under construction, most of what I find are projects
that are pie-in-the-sky stuff, or stuck in the mud because of lack of approval, financing, NIMBYism etc etc etc.
At this point, I looks to me like whoever wrote the press release must
have had on their rose colored glasses. I'm hoping some of you
can provide comments or current info on some of this.
