Peak Oil News - EREC shows how 50% of global energy can be obtained from renewables by 2040

EREC, the European Renewable Energy Council, has published “Renewable Energy Scenario to 2040”, a strategic report that outlines how 50% of the global energy supply can come from renewable energies by 2040. The scenario was one of EREC's inputs to the ‘Renewables2004' international conference that took place in Bonn from 1-4th June 2004. The EREC scenario works on the assumption that additional support measures are put into place. Such measures include establishing legally binding RES targets; shifting financial resources from conventional energy to renewable sources; internalising social and environmental costs of conventional energy sources and change of subsidies policy; increasing direct public spending on research and development for renewables and energy efficiency.
