CLIMBING petrol prices are placing increasing pressure on Sydney families, pushing up the cost of running a household car to almost $260 a week.

An NRMA survey has found the price of keeping popular family cars such as the Holden Commodore and Ford Falcon on the road has increased by almost 10 per cent in just 12 months.

With a nearly 30 cent per litre increase in fuel over the past 12 months, families are now paying about $55 a week at the pump.
