Looking to tap increased consumer interest in fuel-efficiency, General Motors Corp. Chief Executive Rick Wagoner said the auto maker is developing a plug-in hybrid.

Mr. Wagoner, speaking at the Greater Los Angeles Auto Show, said the world's No. 1 auto maker by production is using the Saturn Vue hybrid sport-utility vehicle to develop a plug-in hybrid, which can be recharged from a standard electrical outlet. He said increasing demands from developing countries means oil can't be the sole means of powering vehicles.
