A Vietnamese programme that creates fuel from organic sources, like cow manure, has been recommended for a prestigious international environmental prize.

Biogas for Viet Nam, a project designed to reduce the country’s reliance on fossil fuels by harnessing fumes from rotting garbage, is in contention for a 2006 Global Energy Prize. The awards, which attracted submissions from 700 projects worldwide, will be presented in Belgium next month during a global telecast.
