By the middle part of the 21st Century engineers and scientists see a shift to fully electric vehicles. Internal combustion-powered vehicles will be relegated to museums, parades and shows, much like carriages and steam engines are displayed today. Reaching that point will take a number of steps that must, along the way, solve the many technical, economic and social issues facing such a dramatic change.
