Recently, the Russian Duma discussed the possibility of raising the prices of the natural gas and electricity that is exported to Georgia, or even of stopping the supply altogether.

Against this tense backdrop, the visit of Russian energy giant RAO UES' chief Anatoly Chubais' to Georgia can be considered to be a success - by Chubais, that is. The Georgian administration accepted, without any comments, the Russian conditions for entering the CIS united energy market. As a reward, Chubais promised Georgia an unproblematic supply of electricity.
