Taking Action

Unread postby burtonridr » Mon 09 Jun 2008, 14:04:28

Has anyone here heard of this Organization?
NRDC or Natural Resource Defense Council
They have a website that makes it very easy to help show your support to legislation changes and things.
http://www.nrdc.org/action/default.asp

The webpage above seems to be kept up to date with current happenings. To show your support for each matter you just click on the subject and it takes you to another page that briefly describes the issue at hand, then you can enter your information and show your support. It is supposed to send out a letter to the appropriate people in office with your name.

I think it is a great idea that makes it easy to show your support for certain issues. no getting up and holding pickets, just click the send button.
I found the site while searching PO related websites.

Currently there is a matter which people from PO should consider supporting about the use of Coal.
it is under the title "Tell your representative not to reverse important protections against dirty fuels", it can be found on the web page link above.
It would be great if we could gather strength here at the PO community and start taking action as a group to insure we are a part of the solution.

I know there are a lot of people here that would rather sit hidden behind the computer and keep their mouths shut, you talk about a revolution.
You want a revolution? lets make it happen!
Lets remind the government why they are really in office. Lets remind them that they are not in office to repay financial gifts that helped them get where they are.
I dont know about you but I would rather be able to say that I did not sit idle while the government ran us into the ground.

Posted a few myself, though only God knows if there any use !!
Still, as burtonridr says, you have to start somewhere. There's power in numbers.
Gasmon

Yea it simplifies the process a lot, especially for those people that dont care to expend a lot of energy but still want to voice their opinion.

taking action?
[text edited for COC violation-FL] and all the countries in world only allowed 1 child per couple ,no further action would be needed except a moritorium on personal vehicles that get less than 30 mpg unless you are a contractor , farmer or hauler etc.

I agree 1 child per couple would be great, there are to many people on this planet unfortunately.

What are you doing about it? Written any letters? Talked to any organizations for support?
I will gladly help support that cause just as long as there is a time limit or something in place that will lift the ban once our population has settled at a sustainable rate.

But you cant argue that stopping further coal use is a bad thing? Coal produces a lot more green house gas than oil. Just what we need huh? More asthma, respiratory problems, and a hotter environment.

The ACLU (American Civil Liberties Union) has a similar system that is an automated petition system online.

Dont pass this one up, if you think it is ok for the president to make decisions without due process then just ignore this.

If you think that everyone, including the president should be kept in check, then please spread the word and send a letter by filling out the information and hitting send. ACLU

In a similar vein, I've e-mailed my Congressman, Senators, the Governor, local newspapers, local television stations with links to
www.lifeaftertheoilcrash.net amd here at www.peakoil.com. All of the above were easily found online with forms used to e-mail them. I think the more that people are aware of the situation the better off we'll be.
Though in reality I think I'm a doomer.

I feel the same way.... I really think it is just a little to late, but atleast I can say I tried to help preserve our country....
I dont know if our current way of life is worth preserving (I.E. Greed, displacement of family values, 40hr work week for the man, sprawling cities that pollute to boot, etc).

However, our freedoms and everything this country was originally built to be is worth fighting for, and preserving our rights is worth dying for.
Everyone should at the very least voice their opinion and take time to be involved.... The political games have gone on long enough....

The ACLU also supports open borders and amnesty for the ??million illegal aliens that are here. I'll write to my representatives and senators on my own. I do NOT want the ACLU to have any of my information or support.

Yea, I don't support the illegal aliens either, but the ACLU does support a lot of things I support.

Take action and write congress, help support green peace.

This one is for global warming, investing in renewable resources, etc.

Again all you have to do is go to this link and fill in your information, then click send. Oh so tedious huh?

Please, supporting organizations that are trying to solve these problems is a real need. WE NEED TO SUPPORT THEM OR WE ARE ALL SCREWED.

Dont give up hope, start taking action for the future of your children and grandchildren.

https://secure3.convio.net/gpeace/site/ ... ion&id=126

Please pass it on if you like, maybe you are a member of a sustainable community or something?

Please anyone else that finds a worthy organization to support, feel free to post it here.

Cool tool I found on the green peace website.

http://gpeace.convio.net/site/PageNavig ... tor_Lookup

You can use that tool to look up who represents you in congress. It then gives their name, phone number and mailing address.

What about the population growth that would continue for the next 25 years?

I'm trying to gain support here in the US., especially when we are only 2% of the worlds population and consume 25% of the oil.

If you have an organization that is involved in your country feel free to post it here with a link.

Or if you know of any major change in laws or movements that need support post them here.

I want this thread to be about what is going on and how people can get involved, even if it is in a small way like writing a letter to your government officials.

I like the one child idea, but I think contractors, farmers and haulers should especially be imposed the same restrictions as everybody else.

It would be tighter, but we'll certainly survive.
