People preparing for peak oil?

Unread postby hope_full » Sun 15 Jun 2008, 22:15:27

I was doing a little online reading this evening and came across a surprising trend. Several cities report that applications for concealed-carry permits are up 40% to 90%, from 2007. That's a huge increase.

These news stories come from Texas (I thought everyone there already HAD a gun), Colorado and Virginia. Quite a sampling.

I'm wondering if this is a sign that people suspect that the coming depression/recession and/or parking-lot gas wars could be ugly??

I have my CHL in Texas. Most people own guns, or else someone very close to them (immediate family member, best friend, next door neighbor) owns several. There is only one degree of separation here (not the proverbial six degrees) between someone and firearms ownership.

Even thought I live here and should be able to perceive the increase, I'm a little mystified about the surge in CHL applications in Texas. I have no idea what triggered it. None of my friends, co-workers or family have gotten a CHL in the past few months, as best I can tell. There is no talk about it, except for a few stories in the local news a few weeks ago.

My girlfriend, a staunch democrat, is now considering getting a CHL, however. She goes shooting with me and likes target shooting a lot. She also approaches personal security with great pragmatism. Last weekend we went to the range and she was shooting really well, getting 4 inch groups at 100 yards with my Bulgarian SLR-106FR (an AK-47 derivative).

Lol sheep!!!

lol Just kidding :)

I like the quote by a famous investor.

"Against the crowd be bold, with the crowd be cautious because at any time they could turn and trample you"

Or something like that, cant find it online, it was on the audio book "The Book of Investing Wisdom: Classic Writings by Great Stock-Pickers and Legends of Wall Street"

A sign?

Don't know.

I have guns but have no permit since I do not carry a gun. Should I get a permit?

People are looking very disgusted and unhappy nowadays. Lots of fat, stressed out, unhealthy people that are fed on a diet of factory made, genetically modified, unnatural, perverted foods.

Quality of workmanship is low. Finding good service is almost impossible. People are finding out their dreams are shattered due to crude....so what else can be expected that the I don't give a damn attitude that is widespread.

On a TV commercial they had a Mom trying to persuade the kid to use his carry over cell phone minutes since they are just as good as his monthly phone minutes. But the kid wouldn't go for it. He didn't like 'used' or 'recycled' cell minutes.

This is the sort of world we have created.

That's the reason.

Last year when I learned Hillary was running for president, I immediately bought several AR15 lower receivers.

I paid $110 each for them. After a few years of Obama, I suspect my receivers will literally be worth their weight in gold.

If not, I've got enough AR15's to gift them to my children and neices and nephews for the rest of my life.
Conform . Consume . Obey .

LOL!

I don't think so, but sure will accelerate the die-off.

I think people holding guns, hoarding wealth, health, fuel, food, heating, clothing, etc, will be the first targets during the wars you mentioned. Humility, submission, and street smarts will make you live another day. My 2 cents.

Then make sure you get yourself one of these, perferably with a Terminator to wield it if you can find one:

That's weird. No sport shooting in Wales? 8O

"A new independent study has revealed that sporting shooting contributes £73 million a year to the economy of Wales. Sporting shooting also provides 2,600 full time jobs, plays a major role in conserving the countryside and wildlife habitats, and provides healthy free-range meat in Wales."

If your a member of a gun club yes, but owning a gun in the u.k. (legaly) has become increasingly difficult as the laws have been tightened up considerably in the last 10 years. If your not a farmer, gamekeeper or landowner (aristocracy) its extremely difficult to obtain a licence. The only other way is to join a gang, but theres a five year mandatory prison scentence if your caught with an illegal firearm.

West Virginia does not regulate open-carry sidearms, except for schools, prisons, post offices, banks, and wherever "No Guns" notice is given by the proprietor.
