"low-hanging fruit" more meaningful than "pea

Unread postby jc4patents » Tue 17 Jun 2008, 16:22:01

As I read the intelligent (and very useful) discussions on this sight, I have come to find the following two thoughts helpful in understanding our present predicament.

a) It is not constructive to approach our oil supply problem from the perspective of how much oil is left because it gets one into endless arguments with non-believers (e.g., most capped fields have 70% of original oil left in place because it can't be recovered).

b) It is more productive and more illuminating to approach the problem from the perspective that we have already reaped the "low-hanging fruit" so that it is becoming increasingly expensive to recover the remainder.

My direct supervisor at my old company used the term "low-hanging fruit" constantly. I suspect that he learned it from the same book all other mediocre mid-level managers read. "Low-hanging fruit" and "value-add" are the top two choices for a good game of Buzzword Bingo.

Ridiculous buzzwords aside, your point has merit. Anything to "incentivize" the masses to realize the mechanics of the situation.

Unless we find more water, we'll be drinking pea soon enough.

I think a more useful focus would be net exports and EROEI going forward.

Actually the "low hanging fruit" remark has merit. It will change the paradigm and provide a value added argument in the implementation. Alternately it will create a positive environment to strategize collaberate groups to architect efficient synergies and generate user-centric metrics.

Sorry, it really is a decent idea, but I just had to have some fun.

'Twas The Night Before Christmas, Legal Version

Whereas, on or about the night prior to Christmas, there did occur at a certain

Enjoy with a nice hot bowl of pea.

Seriously, I always point out things like the decline of LSC (Light Sweet Crude) and attendant lack of refining capacity for the resulting heavy sour oil we have now; or the massive energy inputs for unconventional oil sources, or the huge rise in prices for commodities needed for the petroleum industry - steel, concrete. Most everyone else here does the same, far as I can tell. It's half the story, almost. Otherwise Tupi would be up and running for a measly, oh, 80 billion?

I like your buzz words - they remind me of the present administration.

The next administration, as we all begin to realize, faces what may be the most daunting challenge of our entire history as a nation. I earnestly hope they are up to it.
