Heavy Crude. And your point is? You agree with this, you don't? Why in either case.

Yeah we're going to go all out in gathering up every bit of heavy crude we can find. We'll build the refineries to process it also.

It just won't be enough. The economy has to change. Especially in the United States.

The economy will change . . . like it or not . . . simply because we won't have access to as much gasoline as we'd like, ever again! Starting now!
Stop filling dumpsters, as much as you possibly can, and everything will get better.

Just think it through.

Wow... they really let you post big comments at the statesman.

coolio...
The problem is, of course, that not only is economics bankrupt, but it has always been nothing more than politics in disguise... economics is a form of brain damage.

ST I don't agree, I just get tired of the same "there is no problem" drivel every day in the mainstream "news". The administrative associate where I work told me yesterday that there's no such thing as peak oil, just wait until November, this is all politically motivated....:(

utilizing fewer than half the BTUs per dollar of output than was the case 30 years ago."

Funny when the comments to an article are more civil, fact-filled and better written than the original article. :)

I like your closing statement:

"We are going to have to import more of our oil. Period."

You forgot to mention though; we won't be able to import nearly as much as we'd like. Not nearly...by a wide wide margin.

yeah,Texas doesnt put morons ,imbeciles and idiots in homes with barbed wire fences like most states. Considering the inbreeding particularly in the northern parts, well you can understand why things are the way they are there.

In fact, we have one of the most energy efficient economies in the world, utilizing fewer than half the BTUs per dollar of output than was the case 30 years ago.
That's only of use if the number of BTUs available is secure. Each declining BTU will now wipe off a higher proportion of output than was the case 30 years ago!

Peak oil is about rate, not reserves. If this Bernard L. Weinstein fellow cannot tell the area under a curve from its instantaneous value or first derivative, he needs to head down to the University of North Texas enrollment office and ask about an introductory calculus course. I am confident for a gentleman of his standing they would be happy to waive the fee and work out a timetable around his existing official commitments.

North Texas, so predictable. Expect a ton of these. It's the tobacco industry and global warming all over again, folks.

Austin isn't in North Texas. You're thinking of DFW. It's in the hill country slightly to the southeast of the middle of the state.

Ummm, the editorial is from an econ professor at UNT up in Denton, patched through for all the conservatives that live in the Hill Country (Cedar Park, I'm looking in your direction...)

Thanks for the clarification, I see what mos was thinking now: not the newspaper itself just the author of the article.
