The Shell Eastern Petrochemicals Complex is under construction in Singapore and is expected to be completed by 2010.
It includes a cracker and butadiene extraction unit on Bukom Island and a mono ethylene glycol (MEG) and butadiene plant on Jurong Island.
MEG is a raw material for the packaging and textiles industries and demand is growing strongly in Asia.
The project will use recycled water, and has the backing of the Singapore government.
