High Price Of Oil Impacts Solar Company

Unread postby mattduke » Mon 08 Sep 2008, 21:35:38

Mark Bent wrestles with oil prices. Never mind that crude futures have fallen $20 a barrel from their record in July.

Bent's company, Houston-based SunNight Solar, has seen costs for shipping its solar-powered flashlights rise by about 30 percent so far this year, and they show no sign of abating.

"It kills you," Bent told me in an interview from Shanghai, China, where he's overseeing the manufacture of the company's newest model, the SL-2. "Pennies cost me."

Wait, what? Totally off topic, but solar powered flashlights? I think the dynamo ones are a bit more practical. For one they can be "charged" in the dark, and the caps should last way longer than batteries.

I've seen them before it does sound odd but they mount on a wall and charge up so when needed they will last a bit. Just so your house wives will think they are prepared for the worst.
