There's a ton of bad news out there. The market could re-test 8500. Today's rally was basically three cheers for the G7 efforts and Paulson's plan to partially nationalize banks.

The options traders must love it.

European markets up ~5% this morning.

Yesterday the DJIA tracked the Euro indexes pretty closely. If it does again today we're looking at testing 10k again.

Up 11% in one day is pretty amazing. Nikkei is up 14% today.

Must have been some good crack distributed last weekend.

Crazy isn't it?

I think if I was a publicly listed company doing good business, I would delist from the stock exchange at this stage. How can companies operate with +/- 10% swings in their stock prices on the same day. Either that or I would organise a management buyout of the compnay.

There are good companies that can now in theory be bought for absolute peanuts.

I wonder when we will see this start to happen.

Any company on the DJIA is overvalued period. Sure the DJIA might be over 14000 in the coming years in nominal terms only NOT inflation adjusted.

The Monday Rally was the result of a concerted effort by ALL the central banks in ALL the G7 countries to buy up the "assets" individual investors were trying to liquidate for "cash". They pissed out a lot of monopoly money to do this.

They might be able to do this for another day or two, but the pressures are too strong here on the seller end. The governments and the central banks are big, and they also can create fiat money, but the are not bigger than the market itself. EVERYONE is trying to deleverage, and at 10:1 as a minimum here, central banks have to create fiat money at 10x the amount being drawn OUT of the system by individuals trying to deleverage. Bascially, they are going to be swamped out by market forces bigger than any of them.

I give it to maybe Thursday. Maybe I am wrong again, I keep figuring the House of Cards can't make it another day and somehow the geniuses running the show find another parlor trick to play. I'm sorry though, you just CANNOT make something from NOTHING.

Its going to blow here. I mean REALLY blow. I don't THINK it happens tomorrow, but dang, when it does go Ballistic, its going to be something to see. Coming soon to a Theatre Near You.

If you are on Wall Street, keep your eyes turned upward. Its going to be Raining Stockbrokers.

From the Weather Girls:

<Hi - Hi! We're your Weather Girls - Ah-huh -
And have we got news for you - You better listen!
Get ready, all you lonely girls
and leave those umbrellas at home. - Alright! -

Humidity is rising - Barometer's getting low
According to all sources, the street's the place to go
Cause tonight for the first time
Just about half-past ten
For the first time in history
It's gonna start raining men.

It's Raining Men! Hallelujah! - It's Raining Men! Amen!
I'm gonna go out to run and let myself get
Absolutely soaking wet!
It's Raining Men! Hallelujah!
It's Raining Men! Every Specimen!
Tall, blonde, dark and lean
Rough and tough and strong and mean

God bless Mother Nature, she's a single woman too
She took off to heaven and she did what she had to do
She taught every angel to rearrange the sky
So that each and every woman could find her perfect guy
It's Raining Men! Hallelujah! - It's Raining Men! Amen!
It's Raining Men! Hallelujah!
It's Raining Men! Ame---------nnnn!

I feel stormy weather / Moving in about to begin
Hear the thunder / Don't you lose your head
Rip off the roof and stay in bed

God bless Mother Nature, she's a single woman too
She took off to heaven and she did what she had to do
She taught every angel to rearrange the sky
So that each and every woman could find her perfect guy
It's Raining Men! Yeah!

Humidity is rising - Barometer's getting low

I knew I should've gotten out of my Short pos on friday.

I'm going to add to it if the FTSE is still rising on thursday and if I'm near net access. Good chance I"ll be in a sea kayak in the Abel Tasmen national park ;)

I'm not that torn up either way, the FTSE is going to keep going down, the companies are going to keep reporting they're losing cash for some time to come.

Of course stock markets normally price in the recession before it's happened. But I don't think people fully understand how few of these companies can function with 1) ~100$ oil and 2) customers no longer able to buy the crap with their credit cards.

As always, we shall see!

The Dow is taking off, right out of the gate. Up 370 points in the first six minutes.

Stay tuned.

+56...

I see Pepsico is looking to lay off a bunch of people, although its worldwide.

CHICAGO (MarketWatch) -- A decline in North American beverage volume and losses on commodity hedging dragged down PepsiCo's third-quarter profit, even as the food and beverage giant posted a double-digit bump in revenue, and the company said Tuesday it is gearing up for cuts that will cost thousands of jobs.
