Question about OSW technology

Unread postby miraculix » Fri 09 Jan 2009, 08:08:42

Recently I have become interested in oscillating water column devices.

There is a prototype plant in service, located in Scotland and operated by Wavegen.

There are little specifics available as far as cost and efficiencies are concerned.

I have found these tidbits of information and would kindly ask somebody verify these claims:

If less than 0.1 percent of the renewable energy within the oceans could be converted into electricity it would satisfy the present world demand for energy more than five times over, according to Wavegen.

The cost of the power ranges from 4 to 8.5 cents per kilowatt/hour and the plant cost $1.6 million to build, although Wavegen believes future facilities will cost significantly less.

thanks
