Lunar rover to travel parade

17 Jan 2009, 1434 hrs IST, AFP

... skip ...

Unless the Obama administration makes changes to current plans, US astronauts are set to return to the moon before 2020 under the Constellation program, with the aim of establishing permanent lunar bases.

... snip ...

I don't see why he would have to change plans.

Although the cost of such a ambitious project will be staggering. Such events, in history during periods of strife, have provided inspiration and hope for the future.

Expecting traditional social programs & minimal spending on technology.
He already delayed the digital TV conversion again. The next central plan calls for more social services, mortgages, & no significant emphasis on anything else.
People first, then things, then dollars.
There will be enslavement, cannibalism, & zombie invasions.

I am an absolutely firm believer in pursuing space exploration, it is where we should be going. However I don't believe it's necessary to go about it with a bloated beast like Nasa, nor do I think believe we should be fostering or supporting the notion that it can be done without mistakes or accidents.
If someone offered me a one way seat to Mars tomorrow I'd go without a moments hesitation.
Gravity is not a force, it is a boundary layer.
