TBH, I guess this means that the original reports were a frank reflection of current European bank problems. I'm not sure the US has actually genuinely been through this yet (Ok, they're less exposed to eastern europe, but they're badly exposed at home and elsewhere), so this could just be a reflection of future losses globally.
