Question: Did anyone have an opportunity to read the 1,000-page stimulus package before you had a chance to vote on it?
Ron Paul: "Yes, the 20 people who wrote. The lobbyists got hold of it, but I had no access to it. No, Congress did not have a chance to read the bill."
Question: How has it come about, that things have been put in there which were never articulated on the floor of the house or the floor of the senate, that members that congress wanted, as favors to them for certain constituencies?
"Increasing the national debt was buried in there, we raised the national debt by $787 billion and that's the way we legislate in Washington. Government is out of control. Special interests and lobbyists could get the bill and review it (before Congress). It was available to outsiders first and that's who runs the show in Washington."
This is a great video and I'm a big fan of Ron Paul anyway, but he talks about the inside story of how this bill got passed.
