Front Porch Republic

Unread postby Cynus » Fri 06 Mar 2009, 11:29:23

There's a new website that features intelligent commentary on localization, community, sustainability, and other issues that are frequently brought up here. I think that PO-ers would find it worthwhile to check out. It's called "Front Porch Republic." It's not for doomers or survivalists though as its overarching message seems to be a look at what we have lost because of liberal modernism and how we might reconstitute "traditional" communities.

Thanks, this looks interesting.

Somewhere I read a great little short thing comparing front porches to back yards and how the nation had shifted from one to the other over time.

Front porches are great for all sorts of community and humanist reasons. Spring starts the season of "Front Porch Happy Hours" in my neighborhood which are really fun.

If you haven't been reading FPR you're missing out. Today there is a great article about the place of beer in public life and recent posts discuss Edward Abbey, challenges with localizing education, agriculture, and the economy.
