They're going to have all the roads to themselves & drive around at 200mph. They're going to loot all the stores & make themselves a solar powered Winnebego.

But realistically, all the stores in US sell are mortgages. The roads are going to disintegrate long before U get your fling. So who is captain America gonna be?

The last American is probably going to be someone who never did anything they were told, never got a PhD, saw themself as their own provider, saved gold instead of dollars, avoided professional advancement, never got a Palm Pilot/iPod/Razr/iPhone/gPhone, knows how to store food in glass jars & make their own fry sauce. It's probably going to be a man from Utah.

The last american? In the midst of the financial collapse, there will be a lot of 'mericans getting rich. Some (or their offspring) will still be living here decades from now. And still rich. Why would anybody "flee to China" or any other place in the world.
America still provides 3-40% of it's own oil. That is 5-6 MBD A lot of 'mericans can live pretty high on the hog with that kind of energy.
If there ever is a last American their name is probably Getty or Rockerfeller.

I hope it's a Sasquatch. He can finally come down out of the woods
and hunker down to eat crickets and poop on zoysia grass (this is
a nirvana experience for a Sasquatch).

Hopefully, he can score some honeycomb and get all wired up
and dance his ass off with some buffalo and then banshee wail
all the rats out of an inert Escalade so he can crawl inside and
get all snuggly and make night night.

Not being a creature of intellectual rumination, he will simply
be happy we are gone and have stopped carving stuff up
for no particular reason.

He will from time to time have a wistful moment when he checks
a trash can and realizes that there are no chicken nuggets
or the sweet and bubbly sap that clenches his jaw and
inspires him to tear vinyl off of flake board huts for jollies.
