This is because they aren't yet willing to admit to an Economic Collapse. Give it time.

Not quite the same. In a Depression, you can rebuild the monetary system, as was done in the Great Depression through the Bretton Woods agreements. In a true Economic Collapse, you cannot rebuild. This is more akin to the Collapse of the Roman Empire than the Great Depression.
