Back when this was all starting people were asking "what kind of recession/recovery will we have, will it be a V or a U or a W?" The best description I've seen is UL. There just seems to be too much chance that the recovery so far has been the second half of the U and that we are headed for a drop and a long slow recovery. What we will recover to I don't know.

In my state (Georgia), May revenues came in 10% lower than May 2008. There is just no sign at all of any stabilization (let alone improvement) in state revenues. So we get a special legislative session any day now which will take the machete to the budget again.

Pstarr knows about "greenshoots" but where he lives they're called "green shoot-outs"--they're running rampant lately...

Hm, good point there. A domestic peak caused the 70's stagflation, relieved by imports. And now the worldwide peak will usher in staglation without end.

If Obama starts wearing a sweater in the White House, throws up solar panels on the rough, and lectures us about a "crisis of confidence" then it's Welcome Back Carter for sure.

Yep, I'm afraid so. Of course, those who survive the ensuing massive die-off won't have to worry about stagflation (until the population once again rebounds).

Garberville and Laytonville are truly the last frontier towns in the United States.

They may be wild as compared to the beeg cities, but there's even more wild-west shoot-em-up places still around:

Try Termo or Ravendale. Try Orleans or Hoopa. I can think of more. We're full up on 'last frontier' towns around these here parts!
