Good article, should pour some cold water over all the ' we welcome our new chinese leaders' type stuff from some people.

Here is a hint: the US's new concern over CO2 will be an effective means of implementing trade restrictions without calling it protectionism, if they chose.

Long overdue. Globalization has destroyed the western economies and made China and big Multi-Nationals very rich. It worked for awhile. But when you bankrupt your best customer, you kind of screw yourself.

Double so if you loan them the money they pay you back to them to sterilize your currency too keep up your export competativeness. Being mercentilist works for a smaller economy like Japan that also has a large % of its population as a middle class that can drive domestic consumption (same for Germany) its a totaly different situation for China.
